Siarad Cymraeg? well, I've been speaking and using the Welsh language for some time. I'm not fluent by any means, but I feel it is my duty to at least make the effort. No one here ever made me feel compelled to learn the language, however, the Welsh speakers do respect it. It 's been satisfying too, learning, something a bit out of the ordinary. My kids will grow up bilingual too. Language of course is only words, I've a lot of Welsh blood flowing in my veins.
There is also a vibrant culture here that links young and old together without ever encroaching on each other. All we have in England is the Queen, yippee! a culture built on surfdom. Our folk music & traditions have been paralysed by the USA and the pollution of consumerism. It has had an impact on Welsh culture true, but I feel much more of an empathy with 'Welshness' than 'Englishness'. I'm proud my son is born a Welshman rather than a disposable Englishman & a throwaway culture.
I'm glad that the wheels of devolution are in motion,TheWelsh Assembly are just as corrupt as Westminster, but at least they resist the social toxicity of the English Conservative Party. I do have a word of warning to the current English regime, again cuts and privilege are stirring up a hornets nest; not only in Wales but in Scotland and Ireland too. English policies are no longer respected. The Dragon once subjugated by the flag of St George is ready to bite back and reclaim it's indigenous stamping ground.
